A recent move by an American online retailer NewEgg has given the gaming community the closest indication yet as to what console the next Gran Turismo game will debut on.

NewEgg's product listings were recently updated with this page, which clearly states Gran Turismo 6 is – according to the company, at least – destined for a November-time release on the PlayStation 3.

And, whilst it's obvious to take these claims with a pinch of salt, the fact the page hasn't been taken down (at time of writing) suggests that this could be the most solid clue yet as to what console GT6 will debut on.

This is further reinforced by the claims by Mike Denny (Senior Vice President of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe) made earlier this year that Gran Turismo 6 will be a PS3 title.

Given Gran Turismo has traditionally been the flagship racing game on the PlayStation system (in prior interviews, the same Denny who made the 'GT6 for PS3' statement has described the Gran Turismo series as "THE PlayStation franchise"), it does come as a surprise that more and more evidence is suggesting the next Gran Turismo will be released on a console that will be outmoded by the end of the year, at the very earliest.

Especially when you factor in that, if GT6 will be a PS3 game, the PS4's current "flagship" title will be still rather mysterious Drive Club.

Then again, given Sony's been able to shift 70 million PS3s since the console's launch in 2006, it does make sense (from Polyphony's perspective, at least) to release a game that's part of a popular franchise on a console with a pretty broad user base, rather than develop it primarily as a PS4 launch title.

A release on the PS4 at a later date is also a possibility. After all, if third party developers are willing to release their upcoming games on both consoles (such as with Ubisoft and Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag), it shouldn't be out of the question for an in-house, PlayStation-only team to do the same thing.

Of course, this is all speculation at the moment, and nothing has been released or mentioned as of yet that confirms the destiny of GT6. As soon as anything definitive emerges, though, we'll be posting it onto the Team VVV news page ASAP.
