DriveClub received another dollop of DLC this week with the Redline Expansion and Elements Tour pack, but there's also a free new car download you might have overlooked for the Mazzanti Evantra. Never heard of it? Me neither.

This striking supercar is the work of Hungarian designer Zsolt Tarnok. It boasts a 7.0-liter, V-8 and mostly alluminium engine delivering 701 bhp, with a top speed of 217 mph. Specs like that instantly put it in eccentric European hypercar territory; i.e. Pagani and Koenigsegg.  They're also tailor made, with extensive options to customise the interior. It's unclear if it's even gone into production yet, but only five are being planned to be produced each year in Italy. Its debut in DriveClub is most likely your best chance of experiencing it, then.

As with all of DriveClub's car roster, the Evantra has been modelled with impeccable detail: "The realism with which Evantra has been digitalized is impressive," the manufacturer said, clearly enamored with Evolution's attention to detail. "In collaboration with Mazzanti Automobili , Sony engineers have used the original mathematical models of Evantra and took hundreds and hundreds of photos, both of the body that of the passenger compartment."

"The car has been tested on the track and on the road, on different kinds of asphalt, and its reactions have been intercepted, collected and recorded by dozens of sensors; even the roar of the engine has been recorded in all conditions, both from inside the car and from the outside; finally, Sony programmers have collected all the data and have virtually recreated Evantra with a surprising realism, even for the Evantra drive testers."

Luca Mazzanti, creator of Evantra, pointed out that "… this licensing with Sony represents a new significant recognition of the important role of this car and of Mazzanti Automobili in the supercar world. More, Sony has perfectly caught the exclusivity spirit that characterizes our car, making Evantra the only protagonist for some events. For us, the best thing of this spectacular game, is that thanks to Driveclub ™ hundreds of thousands of fans around the world will have the chance to try, at least virtually, those unique and unrepeatable feelings that we wanted to evoke with the design and realization of Evantra. "

He has a point: racing games have become a very viable form of publicity for car manufacturers; a point that Turn10 embraced with the game debut of Rolls Royce in Forza 5. The Evantra is one of many European obscurities that has probably enjoyed extra exposure by being featured in DriveClub. Whlie some have criticised its lack of diversity, the fact that DriveClub keeps giving spotlight to lesser-known manufacturers helps set its car list apart. Your standard Fords, Ferraris and Lamborghinis are two-a-penny in racing games, but how many you name that feature the Marussia B2, Savage Rivale and GTA Spano?
