The MX vs. ATV series has been resurrected by Nordic Games, who will release a new game called MX vs. ATV Supercross in mid 2014 for PC, PlayStation 3, Linux, Mac and Xbox 360, possibly as a downloadable tite.

Nordic Games bought the rights to the series after it was previously canned by THQ after they went bust. A new team made up of former staff who worked on MX vs. ATV was assembled by Nordic to revive the series and work on the next installment. The new team is also based in Phoenix Arizona, where the series originated.

Existing code from MX vs. ATV Alive and MX vs. ATV Reflex will be utilised, as Nordic has said they are aiming to bring back as many features as possible, including online multiplayer on consoles and and Motoclub Depot.

"A lot of the original team members have been aching to continue their passion: building the most authentic off-road racing games possible," said executive producer Ken George. "The hiatus is over, and the team is back to work on MX vs. ATV with great new things to come."

“We’re all devoted fans of the MX vs. ATV games,” adds Reinhard Pollice, Business & Product Development Director at Nordic Games, “so being able to play a part in continuing this brilliant series is a dream come true. We’re absolutely committed to ensuring Ken and his team receive the best support and the freedom to create the games they love making – and we’re confident that the series will continue to grow from strength to strength. Supercross is just the start of our MX vs. ATV plans. 2014 and beyond will prove to be a hell of a ride.”

The last game in the series was MX vs. ATV Alive. While it was a solid entry in the series, it severely underperformed commercially, leading to the series' demise in 2011 before THQ was closed.

Looks like Milestone's MXGP: The Official Motocross Videogame now has some competition…
