Release Date: 07/10/2014

We've been here before, haven't we? Yes, it's the on-going debacle that is DriveClub's eventual release date. Since its delay last year, the official word on exactly when we'll be able to burn some next generation rubber in the PS4's premier racer has been a tentative 'early 2014,' but word on the street has since had us believe DriveClub would be rolling off the assembly line anywhere from February to June.

And now the DriveClub release date rumour mill is back in full swing again. Only this time, it's potentially good news. Because, if this latest release rumour is to be believed, then DriveClub is now just around the corner.

"Mark your Calendars 9.4.14" – this was the message that apparently popped up on the official DriveClub Twitter feed. It was swiftly taken down, but a sneaky screencap from a quick-thinking user on PSNation reveals the alleged fraudulent slip.

For our American readers thinking the date reads the 4th of September, bare in mind that Evolution Studios are based in Britain – in the UK's date format, this reads the 9th of April, indicating that we could be starting our engines in DriveClub in as little as five weeks.

While the alleged tweet has yet to be verified, this certainly appears to be the most credible release date for DriveClub yet – not only does it reportedly come from an official source, but the 9th of April falls on a Wednesday, which conveniently coincides with the European PlayStation Store update. As DriveClub Plus Edition, a free stripped down version of the full game, is set to appear in the Instant Game Collection, this would make DriveClub the free PlayStation Plus game for April. An April release also just about still keeps in-line with Sony's 'early 2014' statement.

Whatever the outcome, there's a strong chance that all will be revealed next week during GDC, as Sony is set to unveil their VR headset to rival the Oculus Rift which DriveClub will reportedly support

The question remains, however: was this a legitimate leak, or a phony Photoshop job? Sound off in the comments below.
