Since the announcement earlier this week of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare it seems some of the game's fans have taken to venting their opinions in the direction of the new entry. Since its reveal trailer went live, the number of YouTube down votes or dislikes has been steadily increasing to the point where the video on the Call of Duty channel now has over 1 million dislikes – four times that of Black Ops III.

Fans of the series who are not enthused by the idea of the series moving even further away from its 'traditional' roots that led to its original standout success have banded together to vent their frustrations in this modern form of protest. The bandwagon has probably been pushed further along as Activision confirmed that the HD version of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will only be available via the Ultimate Edition and not purchasable separately.

Such is the volume of outcry that Activision CEO Eric Hirshberg has felt it necessary to respond to the comments. Replying to a question posed via IGN, Hirshberg stated as part of a long and succinct reply:

We know there are people in our community who are nostalgic for the boots on the ground-style gameplay; that’s why we made Modern Warfare Remastered. But we also have millions of people in our community who want to have new, innovative experiences in the game each year and Infinite Warfare is going to deliver that

Time will tell whether this change of direction within the series has kept it fresh and inticing or whether it has alienated the games core fanbase.

Call of Duty: Infinte Warfare is scheduled for release on November 4th 2016.
