News Have a listen to F1 2017’s improved audio

Our previous look at F1 2017 from E3 2017 focused on the new classic car content as we tamed a 2007 Ferrari around the Bahrain Short Circuit, but now we have some direct feed gameplay to share with you which showcases F1 2017's improved audio allowing you to hear the screaming V10 and V8 engines in greater detail. 

A Codemasters blog explains how the developers approached improving the audio in F1 2017, starting with adding occlusion and convolution reverb. "Previously, when a car disappeared behind something, like through the tunnel at Monaco, you might have been able to hear it through the wall" Audio Designer David Gurney explains. "If a car drives behind a building or something now, the audio should change according to what is in the way."

The team visited race events such as the British Grand Prix in 2016 and the 2017 pre-season testing in Barcelona to record the cars as accurately as possible, but the intense heat the car exhausts produce meant the team had to be careful where they placed the recording microphones. 

It wasn't just the cars that have been recorded with painstaking attention to detail. Codemasters wanted to replicate the raceday atmosphere as authentically as possible, and even recorded podium sessions and crowd chants during the Silverstone 2016 Grand Prix.  Willing Codemasters staff were enlisted to "perform chants and other crowd noise," so you may be able to hear the crowd chanting driver names. Each track also now has individual pit horns that trigger when a car enters the pit lane, and the team even recorded different air blowers.

It's these little details that hardcore Formula One fans will appreciate when F1 2017 races off the line this August
