Sony's Gamescom conference commenced today, and predictably Gran Turismo 6 was given significant spotlight when it came to discussing the PS3's upcoming exclusives as it begins to settle down for retirement to make way for the newborn PS4.

With it came a rather rousing new trailer showcasing a number of new cars, as well as giving us the first in-game glimpse of the Brands Hatch circuit.

We also finally get confirmation of GT6's release date: mark your calendars for December 6th, fellow petrolheads.

The swanky trailer acts as an introduction to 'Vision Gran Turismo,' a project where design teams from real world manufacturers, will create concept models that will then be recreated and released for Gran Turismo 6 via free gifted cars in online updates. Participating manufacturers include Alfa Romeo, Alpine, Aston Martin, Audi, BMW, Bertone, GM Design, Honda, Infiniti, Italdesign Giugiaro, JORDAN Brand, Mercedes-Benz, Nike, Nissan, Peugeot, SRT(Chrysler), Volkswagen and Zagato.

So far, concept cars planned for Vision Gran Turismo include the BMW Vision, an exclusive concept car derived from the BMW M series, the Alfa Romeo 6C Biposto Vision Gran Turismo, created by the same team as the Alfa Romeo 4C that celebrates an iconic model from the 1930's, the Mercedes-Benz AMG Vision Gran Turismo and a new concept car from Nike following the Nike ONE featured in Gran Turismo 4,

“This is a very exciting project,” explained Gran Turismo creator and President of Polyphony Digital Inc. Kazunori Yamauchi.

“Ever since we released the first Gran Turismo game 15 years ago, GT has resonated with the automotive world and we have enjoyed many different and fascinating collaborations. But Vision Gran Turismo is probably our most ambitious to date. It promises to provide a window into the future of automotive design that we can bring to life in Gran Turismo 6. We are extremely grateful to all of our design partners in this project for their amazing birthday present to Gran Turismo to celebrate the franchise’s 15 year anniversary, and are so excited to share this gift with our fans. Working closely with the leading lights of automotive design, as well as some design teams from outside of the industry, has been a rare privilege and we look forward to sharing their creations with fans of Gran Turismo from this year through to 2014”.

Several of the participating manufacturers with Vision Gran Turismo have commented on their involvement:

Adrian van Hooydonk, Senior Vice President BMW Group Design

Andreas-Christoph Hofmann, Vice President Brand Communication BMW

Lüder Fromm, Head of Global Marketing Communications, Mercedes-Benz Passenger Cars

Klaus Bischoff, Director, Volkswagen Design

We also got the first official confirmation from Sony about the forthcoming Gran Turismo film adaptation produced by Mike de Luca and Dana Brunetti. No release date was announced unfortunately, but Sony went on say that the film will "capture the raw adrenaline"of the racing world" with "a human dimension inspired by the GT Academy."

We hope to bring you more Gran Turismo 6 directly from the Gamescom showfloor soon. For now though, you can which showcase some of the premium cars including the Pagani Huayra as well as a closer look at Brands Hatch and Apricot Hill.
