As of today, we’re now halfway through the 2012 rendition of the now annual ‘GT Academy’. Rounds 5 and 6 of the free-to-play time trial ‘selection phase’ minigame are now up and running, set around some of the most challenging and iconic race courses and corners in the Gran Turismo track library.

Here’s a brief overview of what to prepare for once you boot up your PlayStation 3 and start

setting those all-important course times:

Round 5 (Car used – Nissan Skyline GT-R V-Spec II Nür)

.High-Speed ‘S Curves’ with Steep Elevation.

.Continuous Hairpin Corners with Steep Elevation

.Spa-Francorchamps, ‘Pouhon’

.Suzuka Circuit, ‘Degner Curve’

.Series of Corners at Dusk, Low Visibility.

Round 6 (Car used – Nissan GT-R Black Edition)

.Nurburgring, ‘Pflanzgarten’

.Sections with Rapid Elevation Changes

.Top Gear Test Track, ‘Hammerhead’

.Downhill S Curve

.Circuit de la Sarthe at Night, ‘Hunaudieres’

Today also marks another noteworthy event in the 2012 GT Academy’s short history: the 782,000 or so participants have collectively driven over 50 million in-game miles, which is hugely impressive. To put that into perspective, it’s the equivalent of driving around the M25 nearly 430,000 times.

We wish all the participants the best of luck, and hopefully you’ll be one of the lucky ones who pass the final time trial in Round 8 when it’s unlocked in the next few weeks.

Let us know how you’re all getting on in the comments section below or message us on our Facebook page. Now imagine if a VVV member were to make the cut and enter the finals…
