With Microsoft's new Project Scorpio console due to be unleashed next year, it seemed inevitable that the next iteration of Forza Motorsport would follow to showcase all those teraflops. Backing up this theory is the series' traditional release schedule, with the track-centric Forza Motorsport and the open world extravaganza Forza Horizon alternating each year. This year saw the release of Forza Horizon 3, paving the way for Forza Motorsport 7 to follow.

Racing wheel manufacturer Fanatec has now confirmed the release of Forza Motorsport 7 in a post on the official Fanatec forum by CEO Thomas Jackermeier. The news isn't exacctly surprising, but it is the first time Forza Motorsport 7 has been officially confirmed to be in development. What's encouraging, however, is that the forum post invited users to provide their suggestions on how to improve Forza Motorsport's wheel support. Compared to Assetto Corsa, force feedback in Forza Motorsport 6 felt lackluster.

Among the suggestions from the community included handbrake support, variable wheel ratios depending on the car and more advanced force feedback. Following a meeting with Turn 10, Fanatec reported that "a lot of things will change for the better" in forthcoming Forza games and that Turn10 now has a new dedicated person responsible for developing the physics and force feedback in Forza Motorsport 7.

I had a very good meeting with them and I am happy to report that there is a good chance that a lot of things will change for the better in upcoming FM titles. There is a new person who is responsible for physics and force feedback and this is a "wheel guy". He is a real world racer with car engineering background and very familiar with PC simracing.

The PC market seems very important for them and they are aware that this market is dominated by wheel users. Therefore  we will intensify our co-operation and get the best out of the games for wheel users.

I cannot confirm at this point what features can be implemented but the interest to do so is very high.

The news that Turn10 is recognising the importance of the PC market is particularly promising, indicating that Forza Motorsport 7 could be a more simulation-focused title compared to the more accessible physics in recent games in the series.
