Turn 10 Studios has released new information on Forza Motorsport 6's Prize Spinner and Mod systems.

Even though the Prize Spinner mechanic was first introduced to the franchise via Forza Horizon 2 last year, both of these systems will be making their first appearance in a Forza Motorsport game through Forza Motorsport 6.

These two features are also claimed by Turn 10 to "bring a new level of challenge and fun to Forza [Motorsport] 6", with the Mods in particular set to have the biggest impact on gameplay.

For instance, 'Crew' mods increase your car's performance levels (Turn 10 cites the reduced weight and increased grip levels that come with the 'Chassis Expert' Crew Mod as a prime example).

On the other hand, 'Dare' mods hinder the player's ability to achieve the race objective, such as through reducing the chosen car's power output or forcing the player to start in last place. As an incentive to players, extra in-game credits are awarded if you're able to achieve your objective whilst running Dare mods, on top of any payout increases gained by removing assists and turning up the Drivatar difficulty.

The third category of mods ('Boost') sit somewhere in between the first two – though no performance increases aren't featured, it is possible to earn extra credits at the end of the race by completing certain tasks (those who've played Race Driver Grid will see a similarity between that game's sponsorship system and the Boost mods in Forza Motorsport 6).

A maximum of three mods can be selected before a career or Free Play race, and only one from each category. It's also worth pointing out that Boost mods can only be used once before being discarded, each mod comes with its own 'rarity' rating and all mods can be acquired with credits or as Prize Spinner rewards.

On top of awarding mods, the prize spinner has also been tweaked since the feature's first appearance in Forza Horizon 2. The system now operates on a grid, and Turn 10 claims it will "always" be adding new rewards to the spinner. As with Forza Horizon 2's setup, cars and credits will also be up for grabs every time the player levels up.
