News Forza 5’s monetisation to be revised following fan feedback

Forza Motorsport 5's micro-transaction-based monetisation has been the subject ot great debate over the past  week. As we revealed in a column I wrote last week, cars can be bought using real world money by purchasing in-game tokens. Some of the asking prices are absolutely astronomical – the Lotus E21 F1 racecar, for example costs more than the full game. 

Unsurprisingly, Forza 5's economy structure has been heavily criticised by the riled community. However,like many of the Xbox One's policies the system will be making a swift u-turn, as the developers announced plans to rework Forza 5's micro-transaction pricing structure whilst introducing a series of offers until the changes take effect. 

"We're in the process of making some changes to the Forza Motorsport 5 economy. But, while we're putting the final touches on that, we want to make sure everyone continues having a great time with Forza 5," Turn 10's Brian Ekberg said in the latest Forza 5 wire. 

The upcoming offers will consist of the following:

• 50 per cent off every car in the game between Friday 30th November at 8:01 a.m. GMT to Monday, 2nd December at 7:59 a.m. This includes purchasing them with credits or tokens.
• Forza Motorsport 5 VIP members receive a free 2013 Lotus E21 grand prix car.
• VIP members who already purchased the 2013 Lotus E21 will receive the 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO instead.
• Those who have purchased the LaFerrari Car Pack or the Forza Motorsport 5 Car Pass will get the 2013 LaFerrari gifted directly into their garage.
• Credit payouts for Forza Rewards – a loyalty program that rewards players for sticking with the series – will increase "dramatically" come December. Turn 10 noted, "The higher your Tier level reaches before December rolls around, the better the rewards you'll be able to redeem, so get your play time in now and level up!"

Of course, while these offers are a welcome gesture in response to the outrage Microsoft have faced this week, they are by no means a solution to the problem. Hopefully this will change soon, though, as the developers confirmed that they will be revising the pricing structure: "Looking ahead, we'll continue to make further adjustments to the Forza Motorsport 5 economy when they're needed and I'll be sure to keep you informed as these changes are made."
