The telemetry data of Forza Motorsport 6 players will be used to help Ford hone its in-development GT racing car.

Speaking to Top Gear Magazine, Forza Motorsport 6 creative director Dan Greenawalt revealed the data of players who've driven the 2017 Ford GT around the game's Le Mans circuit will be passed on to Ford's motorsport division.

Chassis setups as devised by the Forza tuning community will also be forwarded to Ford, with the logic being a tune that's quick in Forza Motorsport 6 will also be worth experimenting with in shakedown tests for the real-life racing car.

Greenawalt added that player skill isn't necessarily a hindrance to Ford's motorsport aspirations, because "you just end up with so much data" that it gives the Ford engineers a far clearer idea of how the car will theoretically behave and handle on-track.

For obvious reasons, testing of the Ford GT racing car won't be restricted to Forza Motorsport 6 player data. Instead, it'll complement the current, more conventional development programme that Ford will be running right up to the 24 Heures du Mans race in June 2016.

The Ford GT racing car project was announced earlier this year. Though the car will be run throughout the 2016 WEC and Tudor United SportsCar Championship, the main aim is to secure a class victory in the GTPro class at Le Mans, 50 years after the Ford GT40 secured its first outright win at the track.
