The wait is over after Kunos Simulazioni teased us about a forthcoming announcement of great significance for Assetto Corsa yesterday. Turns out they were preparing us for their most important manufacturer license yet: a partnership with the great prancing horse.

Let me make that a bit clearer for the uninitiated: Ferrari is in Assetto Corsa!

In truth, the partnership stems from Kunos Simulazioni's collaboration with Ferrari during the development of Ferrari Virtual Academy. The agreement will allow the developers to produce five Ferraris for Assetto Corsa along with the Mugello circuit. Five Ferraris may sound like a meager amount compared to the diverse stable of horses available in Gran Turismo and Forza, so hopefully we will see more down the line.

Only the 458 Italia has been confirmed so far, with hints pointing to both contemporary and legendary models of the past completing the line-up. The inclusion of Ferrari joins Lotus, BMW, Abarth and KTM as the manufacturers confirmed for Assetto Corsa.

Marco Massarutto, Project & Licensing Manager at Kunos Simulazioni commented:

"This achievement gives us the greatest satisfaction possible, and is the result of a long and complex work started a long time ago. After choosing our team in 2009 for the project "FVA," Ferrari has strengthened our collaboration agreement laying the basis for a long-time agreement with great potential.

With the Ferrari Official License in Assetto Corsa, Kunos Simulazioni realizes a dream, built through years of dedicated effort, with the aim of offering something great to gamers, racing fans and sim-racers. We left nothing to chance, working to the maximum of our abilities and resources. We hope that our efforts will be understood and appreciated, and that people, with their support, will allow us to go even further in the future."

While the screenshots provided look undeniably superb, we finally get to see the Assetto Corsa in motion  in an official high quality video with a Ferrari 458 frolicing around Monza:

All of a sudden, that vision of playing a PC equivilant to Forza Motorsport and Gran Turismo has come closer to a reality. Is it 2013 yet?
