If you want to showcase the graphical prowess of a racing game, weather effects are a pretty effective method. DriveClub is the current benchmark: watching the dynamic water droplets drizzle down the windscreen is a spectacular sight that still blows us away.

Wet weather is also one of Forza Motorsport 6's headline new features, and while weather effects aren't exactly revolutionary in racing games, it's the first time they've featured in Forza Motorsport 6. Turn10 may be taking flack for the fact the weather isn't dynamic, thus making the puddles predictable, you can't argue that the visual effects are stunning – it's just a shame only some tracks will support the option for weather effects.

Project CARS, on the other hand, lets you apply weather effects to any track you wish, and even set up to four weather pattern intervals. This means you can start off in the dry before getting caught in a light rain shower which soon developers into a full blown storm, so you have to be strategic with your tyre changes.

The 3.0 update recently revamped Project CARS' weather effects, introducing dynamic visual effects which Alan explores in the accompanying gameplay video. It's still not on a par with DriveClub, however – Project CARS hasn't replicated the fancy effect where the water moves when you turn a corner.

Still, Project CARS' weather effects are still mightily impressive in their own right. The rain spray and atmospheric lighting effects create a challenging and immersive experience, not to mention the profound effect it has on the handling.

You can make up your own mind – for comparison's sake, we've also included a video of DriveClub's dynamic weather effects.

Do you think the 3.0 update offers a significant improvement in Project CARS' weather effects?
