Release Date: 07/10/2014

The on-going saga of DriveClub's delayed release shifted up a gear with the unstelling news today that staff at Evolution Studios have been affected by layoffs, along with fellow first party Sony developers Guerrilla Cambridge and SCE London Studio. Numbers have not been disclosed, but Videogamer understands that staff from each studio have been affected.

"Regular reviews take place throughout SCE Worldwide Studios, ensuring that the resources that we have in such a competitive business can create and produce high quality, innovative and commercially viable projects," a Sony stated.

"As part of this process, we have reviewed and assessed all current projects and have decided to make some changes to some of our European Studios. As a result of this, there will be a focused restructure within London Studio, Guerrilla Cambridge Studio and Evolution Studio to ensure that the SCE WWS is in the best position to achieve their goals going forward.

"Our first party development studios are key to our creative strategy and we are very excited about the future projects being worked on."

Evolution are of course the team behind the long-delayed social racer DriveClub, whereas Guerrilla handled recently released Killzone: Mercanary spin-off Vita title and SCE London developed The Playroom for the PS4 Eye Camera.

DriveClub's development "will not be affected" by Evolution's lay-offs, according to SCEE. It's little consolation, however, considering DriveClub still doesn't have a firm release date, and is still supposedly on-track for a release in 'early 2014' until we hear otherwise. The last we heard was that the delay was apparently not connected to Sony's VR Headset Project Morpheus
