News DriveClub getting “significant server update” in next 24 hours

Over two weeks have passed since DriveClub launched off the line, only to stall spectacularly. At the timing of writing, the online features are still far from fully functional. Things have since improved, but the servers still aren't exactly stable – less than ideal considering the online clubs aspect is a core component of the game. 

Evolution's latest update on the situation promises a "significant server update to improve performance in the next 24 hours." 

"We will also be running performance diagnostics around this update, but there shouldn't be much disruption or downtime," it continues. "This server update will improve online performance across the game and it also brings specific improvements for multiplayer racing and leaderboard updates."

"More improvements will follow as we make progress on Sunday and Monday, but we still have more work to do to get everything back on track before we can give you any bigger or better news. We will keep you up to speed."

Evolution may be receiving a lot of flack over the situation, but they are at least keeping us regularly updated – even if progress seems painfully slow for such a high profile release. Indeed, they're still working around the clock to resolve the issues: "Improving server performance is taking time, which is frustrating for all of us, but please understand that we are doing everything we can to get all aspects of online play up and running smoothly as quickly as possible," a previous update read. 

The online multiplayer also received an update recently, adding more events and variety when selecting online races. 

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, there's still no word on a revised release date for the free-to-play PlayStation Plus Edition. At this rate, we'd guess that it will be part of November's Instant Game Collection update. But by the time DriveClub eventually gets back on track, you have to wonder if it will all be too little too late.
