Watch the video below, and you'd be forgiven for mistaking it for footage taken from Forza Motorsport's Autovista mode. Except what you're looking at isn't even a console game – it's a mobile game.

The game in question is CSR2, a sequel to the hit CSR mobile drag racing game first released in 2012 that looks to be setting a new graphical benchmark for mobile racing games with its highly detailed car models that rival it’s console counterparts. Indeed, it's a testament to how far mobile gaming has come, as CSR2 adopts advanced shading and lighting techniques techniques we now take for granted in big budget console games.

"To make this dream a reality, the team has built upon some of the world’s most advanced shading and lighting techniques to mimic how light reflects from cars in real life," a developer blog explains.

"For example, physically based shading is used to simulate the interactions that cars in your garage have with light sources to capture reality in the most stunning way possible. But while visuals and fidelity are important, we never make any technological advancement for technology sake alone. It is always a means to create a believable and immersive experience for the player," the developer stated in a blog post.

The authenticity also applies to the interiors, as the team worked closely with Ferrari, Lamborghini, McLaren, Pagani to name a few manufacturers, using supplied CAD data to meticulously model each car inside and out. You'll also be able to freely open panels in the game’s garage mode and customise each car with real-world options, from official paint options to real-manufacturer and model trim options.

"CSR2 lets players experience the thrill of attaining not just one, but a whole garage of the most desirable cars on the planet, and it feels as close as possible to the real thing. That’s because each car, down the stitching on the seats, is built without compromise to its real-world beauty, integrity and authenticity. Adding to the feeling that these cars are truly yours is the ability to configure each one just as if you were making those choices in a real-world showroom."

The visual fidelity on display starts to make sense when you learn more about the team behind CSR2: the developers at NaturalMotion and Zynga have previously worked on renowned racing game series including Forza, Need for Speed, DiRT and Burnout.

But while the tantalysing trailer does a great job of showcasing its glorious graphics, we've yet to see any actual gameplay. CSR2 is said to continue the drag racing setup seen in CSR Racing (which to date has been downloaded 130 million times – I think you can call that a resounding success) with some new innovations to be announced soon. Several soft launches planned in the coming weeks before the final global release later this year.
