Kunos Simulazioni's Assetto Corsa will not meet its intended release window in late 2012, and is now scheduled for an early 2012 release, it's been revealed.

The news comes from an extensive interview on ravsim following avid simracer Jon Denton's recent visit to the developer's studios during the Vallelunga-Endurance-6H-Race

“It looks like we will be delayed beyond the date we originally aimed for,” Assetto Corsa's Project Director Marco Massarutto stated.“There are a few good reasons for this, some of which we can’t really get into, but a lot of it is just a matter of making the sim right.  We’d rather put out the best product we can, a little later than expected – than release something that doesn’t work, on time – I think that’s natural.  As such I think we’re looking at quarter one 2013, sometime around March, for release now."

I can't say I'm surprised by this development, as news regarding Assetto Corsa had become suspiciously scarce in the run-up to its projected release. The delay therefore comes as a predictable, but necessary delay – it's hard to argue with Marco if a small delay will give the developers the opportunity the make the best PC racing simulator they possibly can.

Still, it's not all bad news as it seems that we may still get to sample Assetto Corsa this year before its initial release: "However, we hope to get the ‘tech demo’ out sooner, hopefully this year." Kunos Simulazioni previously have previously referred to a tech demo consisting of just one car and track, so we can only assume that this is what Marco is alluding to.

Dan's interview also delves deep into Assetto Corsa's physics along with other aspects, so it's well worth a read.

Meanwhile, some new screenshots showcasing the BMW E30 M3 and a detailed representation of the old Monza track layout have been released, along with yet another new gameplay video of Aristotelis Vasilakos driving the Pagani Zonda R around Monza.
