News on Kunos Simulazioni's Assetto Corsa has been eerily quiet lately, as players anticipating the promising PC sim racer were left reeling from its last minute pre-order delay, once again leaving its ETA in limbo.

Kunos has finally broken the silence however, announcing that those who have been patiently waiting are about to be rewarded with an upcoming playable beta of Assetto Corsa.

While no firm release date has been given for when we'll be able to get our first test drive, Kunos insists in a post on the official Assetto Corsa page  that the beta will be available "very, very soon" via Steam Access. Assetto Corsa retail for 34,99 Eur at a reduced discount of 22%, and ordering on Steam Access will grant you access to the beta version, its updates and the final release.

In its initial release, you'll get the barebones shell of the game with the main structure and 11 cars in 8 classes. From there, Kunos will update the beta every two weeks, adding additional cars and features such as AI, a career mode, multiplayer and car damage.

Once the beta has finished, the final game will include 35 cars, 16 vehicle classes, 11 circuits and 3 additional scenarios. Kunos also utilised the extra time to add the Spa Francorchamps track, and 3 additional GT cars: the Mercedes Benz SLS AMG, SLS AMG GT3 and the Lotus Evora GTC, with more content to follow throughout 2014 via DLC.

Unfortunately we have no ETA on when the beta will get the green light, but Kunos is currently preparing a new website launch to coincide with the release, indicating that it will be sooner or later. So get ready to start your engines, PC players: it's been a long, arduous wait, but Assetto Corsa really is now imminent.
