While we're enjoying a new wave of console sim racers flooding the market, not everyone has the luxury of a force feedback wheel to get the most out of them. Fact is, the majority of console players will probably be getting their sim racing kicks using a traditional controller.
Keen to emphasise that the much anticipated console release of Assetto Corsa is just as enjoyable on a controller as it is with a wheel, Kunos Simulazioni have released a side by side comparison video showing the Lamborghini Huracan GT3 being thrashed around Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps played with a wheel and a controller on the PS4 version.

The movement of the car is noticeably jerky in the controller lap and the player struggles to stick to the racing line at some points compared to the smooth driving seen in the lap driven with a wheel. This isn't surprising however – a controller will never be able to offer the precision provided by a wheel. A 1080 degree rotation wheel will naturally offer far greater car control, allowing you to make subtle adjustments compared to the limitations of an analogue stick.
That said, Assetto Corsa seems to be doing a commendable job of delivering an authentic driving experience on a controller – we'll have to judge for ourselves when Assetto Corsa races onto PS4 and Xbox One August 26th.
