News 24 Hours of Le Mans content coming to Project CARS

Slightly Mad Studios has announced a partnership with Automobile Club de l’Ouest to bring the 24 Hours of Le Mans to Project CARS, following the latest annual endurance race held last weekend in which Audi sped to victory in the top two spots.

Slightly Mad aren't doing things by halves in Project CARS , and the 24 hour Le Mans will be no different. The developer proclaims that Project CARS will be the first racing game to properly simulate all aspects of the grueling endurance race, which is often haled as the challenging motorsport in the world, with events that take run in real time running through a 24 hour day and night cycle against a full 55 car grid to present the player with every possible condition the real life racing drivers face. 

To replicate the event as accurately as possible, Slightly Mad enlisted no less than three professional racing drivers who competed in last weekend's event.   

Rene Rast and Oli Webb raced each other in the LMP2 class, while Slightly Mad's Physics & Handling Consultant Ben Collins of Top Gear Stig competed in the GTE class. No doubt their fresh first hand experience will be instrumental to the developers in replicating every facet of the sport.

Naturally, Project CARS will feature a true to life virtulisation of the Circuit of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, complete with the legendary Mulsanne straight where it's not uncommon for cars to reach speeds in excess of 340 km/h.

Accompanying the historic racetrack will be an assortment of Le Mans racecars, ranging from the 2002 Audi R8 & 2011 R18 TDI prototypes and the latest Le Mans race-winning 2014 Audi R18 e-tron quattro. Meanwhile, the LMP2 class will be represented by the Alpine A450 LMP2 as well as the ORECA 03 LMP2, which represents over 80% of this year's official LMP2 grid.

Furthermore, a selection of historic racecars that have competed in past events will also be included, such as the race-winning 1978 Renault Alpine A442B, the 1990 Mercedes Benz Sauber C9 Group C car and BMW’s 1999 V12 LMR prototype. Clearly, some of the developers at Slightly Mad are long-time fans of Le Mans.
